Professor Patrick
Carr, qualified in both nursing and law, is an expert on the interface
between health and social care and the law. His experience includes
many years practice, teaching on medico-legal topics, successfully
representing clients in tribunals, providing expert reports, and
giving oral evidence in various courts under cross-examination. |
Formerly Head of
Nursing Studies at Manchester Polytechnic (1975-1986), Professor Carr
has also been Chief Executive of the Registered Nursing Home Association
(1986-1994), which he left to found CNHS - the Quality Care & Nursing
Home Service. He is a past Vice President of the European Association
for Directors of Residential Care Homes for the Elderly, and is a Fellow
both of the Royal Society of Medicine and also of the association of
Lawyers and Legal Advisors.
The author of several
books and many papers, Professor Carr was Project Director
to the United Nations-sponsored research project on quality assurance
in long-term work based out at Florida State University.
Expert
Witness Reports
Professor Carr
has been preparing Expert Witness Reports since the 1980's.
Over the years
he has provided hundreds of Reports and has given evidence in
various courts throughout the UK, including under cross-examination,
on a number
of occasions. He has been instructed to report on incidents in hospitals,
in Nursing and Residential Care Homes, in GP's Surgeries, and in the
community in general particularly in people's homes.
When so required,
he has visited premised and interviewed clients across the
whole of the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
He has accepted
instructions on behalf of both Claimant and Defendant, and welcomes
Legal Aid work. Reports have dealt 'inter alia' with the following:
- lifting injuries
- Care Reports
in cases of personal injury/industrial injuries
- professional
nursing negligence in hospitals, nursing homes, GP's practices, and
in the community at large
- violent attacks
in psychiatric hospitals, mental nursing homes
- disputes between
Health Authorities/Nursing Homes, and Local Authorities/ Residential
Care Homes
- liability of
providers of care for breaches of duty.
